▎エッセンシャルオイル紹介
真正ラベンダーは「トゥルーラベンダー」または「ハイランドラベンダー」とも呼ばれます。毎年5月に開花し、平均標高約800m以上の高地で生育します。乾燥に強く、紫色の花穂をつけます。その名称はラテン語の「Lavare（洗う）」に由来し、「洗浄」を意味します。古代ローマ時代、人々はラベンダーで入浴し、心身と魂を清めると信じられていました。
地中海沿岸原産で、ローマ人による帝国拡大とともに広まり、その後イギリスや北ヨーロッパへと拡散しました。2000年以上にわたり医療や食用として幅広く利用され、現在ではヨーロッパの伝統医療およびアロマテラピーの主要植物の一つです。一般に知られるラベンダー（Lavender）は18世紀には「espic」と呼ばれ、プロヴァンスでは「epi」と愛称で呼ばれていました。またローマ人やギリシャ人はラベンダーで病室や施設を「浄化」「清掃」していました。
現在確認されているラベンダーの品種は20種以上、さらに100種類以上の交配種がありますが、アロマテラピーにおいて最も一般的に使用されるのは真正ラベンダー精油です。豊富なエステル構造により非常に穏やかで安全性が高く、あらゆる年齢層に適しており、やさしくサポートしてくれる精油です。
▎成分解析
｜主成分：エステル類
主な成分は酢酸リナリル、テルピネンエステル、ゲラニルエステルのほか、リナロール、ピネン、リモネン、カンフェン、β-カリオフィレン、酸化物、アルデヒド、クマリン、ラクトンなど多種の微量成分を含みます。
